A school named after hope

Local ISP, REVZTEL, powered by unconnected.org, and supported by DING, installed a connectED package consisting of satellite internet and access points in an isolated school named after hope in the local dialect, Villapag-asa National High School, in Bansud, province of Oriental Mindoro, Philippines.

The dedicated team joined by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) deployed the connectivity during a window when torrential rains stopped. An estimated 900 students and over 40 faculty members are expected to be benefitted by the access to the internet. Access points were provided by REVZTEL within the school compound, while making affordable internet in surrounding communities also available.

Because of its remote location, traditional telecommunications services in the area remain to be a challenge. Frequent electricity blackouts likewise characterize the area. With the contributions of DING related to promoting connectivity for the educational sectors, learners and teachers alike are expressing renewed hope for the future.

unconnected.org is also building on additional educational offerings for the school, leveraging partnerships for pushing content, as well as conducting skills training opportunities.
