Another island school empowered with connectivity

Connectivity at Cresente P. Chavez Central Elementary School at Guimaras Island, Visayas, Philippines was established for students by WiFi4Every1, a member-partner of unconnected.org, through satellite. Internet was extended out to the community from the school to provide access to online services.

As a sustainable model in deploying last-mile connectivity at areas of social impact such as schools, satellite internet is utilized by partner ISPs as part of their community network offers, enabling free access for students while empowering other users through affordable connection.

Schools in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) are more vulnerable to the effects of digital divide. Students use the Internet for complementary learning opportunities online, while connectivity options made available to the community become tools for social mobility.

The project is undertaken with support from ING.
