Emergency connectivity, tool for disaster response
John Gilbert Ora’a, lead volunteer of unconnected.org in the Philippines, delivered a webinar before a wide range of regional audience composed of uniformed personnel, first responders and other emergency telecommunications volunteer representatives.
unconnected.org was invited to speak at the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) commemoration of the National Disaster Resilience Month.
Entitled “Communications and Connectivity in Crisis Response,” the event gathered members of the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC). The session was incredibly engaging and productive.
Takeaways included invaluable perspectives on how effective communication and robust connectivity are absolutely critical during challenging times.
According to DICT, community participants learned about fostering resilience and ensuring timely, accurate information flow when it matters most.
Through the support of Internet Society Foundation, unconnected.org is equipping schools with satellite internet capabilities, transforming them into natural communications hubs during disasters.
A free certification program is being run by unconnected.org to train local responders, community volunteers and partner Internet Service Providers (ISP).
