Good local governance, better education, anchored on connectivity

unconnected.org addressed a 5,000-strong audience in the recently concluded capacity building activity of local legislators from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao under the Philippine Councilors League - Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Coinciding with the celebration of the National ICT Month, the presentation highlighted key opportunities for participating in the digital economy through the internet, primarily via satellite in the context of Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA).

Echoing the theme “Walang Maiiwan sa Digital Bayanihan” (no one left behind in digital cooperation), the attendees were made aware of the pivotal role of the internet in transforming schools into innovation hubs, where surrounding communities can avail of affordable internet.

Connectivity enables good governance and enhanced educational opportunities, including disaster preparedness and response. PCL acknowledges the significance of satellites, as a complementary technology to fiber, in stimulating last-mile demand while digitally transforming communities most especially in the underserved and unserved regions.

In addition, the social benefits to be unlocked by the landmark digital connectivity law, Konektadong Pinoy, is a solid anchor for a more efficient delivery of public services, enabled by community networks.
