One less "unconnected" island school

charityphilippines.org in partnership with unconnected.org, through KioBytes, is powering up a school at Katakian Island, Quezon, Philippines.

The island is situated hours from the mainland. With this geographic isolation, the internet remained to be a far-fetched dream for students and teachers of Katakian Elementary School, until KioBytes completed the installation of satellite-based connection.

Complementing connectivity, charityphilippines.org visited the school and led the turn-over of learning materials, phones and tablets to enrich the opportunities of students.

This marks another significant milestone as the model of community connectivity, anchored on the free use of the internet for students and supported through KioBytes’ fiber infrastructure offered among surrounding households, is creating a sustainable environment for our partner local internet service provider.

Promoting digital equity is what unconnected.org is about - connecting areas of social impact especially schools, providing online opportunities for students and teachers, and transforming communities through affordable connectivity.

Support for connectivity was made possible through funding from charityphilippines.org, an online crowdfunding platform for non-profits.
