unconnected.org join non-profit governance workshop in Philippines

The Philippine Council for NGO Certification (PCNC) and the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) held a workshop on essentials of non-profit governance in the Philippine context.

unconnected.org, being the only information and communications technology (ICT) oriented non-profit organization in the cohort, shared sustainability models of its community network initiatives.

It has been a highlight that various non-profit organizations (NPO) rely heavily on opportunistic communications, that is - lack of reliable commercial telecommunications services in the most rural of places where these NPOs operate, such as islands, depressed villages, and far flung communities, collectively called Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA).

Acknowledging the necessity of reliable internet services, especially for the education, health and disaster management sectors, unconnected.org has shared to NPOs aligning to its mission of digital equity and promoting affordable connectivity in the countryside.

The workshop served as a venue to validate the objectives of unconnected.org in the Philippines, as well as to anchor key strategies on good governance and high standards of accountability.

In the name of good governance, partners of unconnected.org in the Philippines are likewise vetted and qualified to support its mission of bridging the digital divide and providing universal access.
