unconnected.org Philippines takes stage at Fiber Forward

At the occasion of the 19th FiberConnect APAC Conference 2024, unconnected.org Philippines General Manager Benjz Sevilla delivered a presentation anchored on Advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Transforming Lifestyles Through Connectivity.

It was highlighted that the internet facilitates economic activity and spurs the growth of new industries. While robust fiber infrastructure build-out is essential to sustaining growth and development, complementary technologies such as satellite internet allow for expanding connectivity in rural and remote areas.

SDGs cover all markets including mature digital economies as well as rural communities; hence, there lies an opportunity to drive benefits of connectivity into remote islands, isolated areas, mountain schools, aimed at stimulating demand in areas with high-growth potential considering coverage, capacity and cost. For these, satellite internet backhaul is seen as a catalyst for fiber use-case.

SDG 4 focuses on Quality Education; with connectivity, remote learning is made possible as it enables online education, reaching remote areas and offering flexible learning options, as well as enhanced digital literacy and access to educational resources and tools.
