Community livelihood trainings for women enabled by connectivity
Ahon sa Hirap Inc (ASHI) is an organization established to help alleviate poverty through non-collateralized loans, using the Grameen Bank Approach to empower marginalized women to improve their livelihoods.
ASHI has partnered with unconnected.org in delivering online training focused on women empowerment. As observed, interaction with peers and community mentors were enhanced through the Internet.
unconnected.org mission is anchored on Digital Equity, akin to the alleviation of digital poverty and closing the digital divide. This is achieved not merely by providing the Internet, but one that is meaningful.
Considering Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) where ASHI operates, satellite is the most appropriate solution in delivering connectivity.
Central to unconnected.org’s community networks is sustainability. As such, ASHI is also looking at establishing social enterprises on connectivity for the benefit of the community.
