Disaster-ready schools, centres, piloted at Cagayan Valley, Philippines
unconnected.org through King Red has connected several schools and community centers for free, located at Cagayan Valley, Luzon, Philippines.
Satellite internet was used as backhaul for connectivity at said educational institutions, extended to various community centers and other public facilities.
In times of emergencies, said satellite terminals, being already prepositioned at schools, shall serve as backhaul for emergency telecommunications by various responders, led by the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
In absence of formal evacuation areas, schools also serve as such during disasters, which maximizes the impact of connectivity, including access points which are already pre-installed.
unconnected.org is set to complement trainings of King Red and the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC) on the use of satellite internet in such scenarios.
