Schools in densely populated areas connected by satellite
Several schools were linked by Innovations Solutions through 3NETI recently, namely Claro M Recto High School, Tondo High School, Esteban Abada High School and Jose P. Laurel High School .
Located at heavily populated areas in the outskirts of the National Capital Region, Philippines, the schools had not been connected due to limitations in digital infrastructure in the area.
Free internet is provided to both learners and faculty, as well as enabling facilities such as smart TVs for playback of online educational materials and course content.
Teachers welcomed the connectivity citing its contribution to the overall learning environment, as students are expected to be digitally literate and familiar with online computing in this day and age.
Innovations Solutions partnered with the Department of Education for this pilot initiative to bridge the digital divide in peri-urban settings, where factors such as access to connectivity are hampered by factors aside from technology, such as socio-economic and others.
More sites are being considered for similar initiatives which use satellite internet as backhaul, and internet is distributed through access points and offered free to students, while enabling surrounding communities to access the same affordably.
