Empowering Education: Transforming Sky Heights Academy with Reliable Connectivity
In today’s world, digital literacy is essential and access to reliable internet is no longer a luxury. It is critical for quality education. Across Africa, schools face significant challenges in adopting digital learning due to inconsistent connectivity, high data costs, and outdated infrastructure. Without dependable internet, teachers struggle to deliver modern lessons and students miss opportunities to develop skills necessary to thrive in a competitive global environment.
Sky Heights Academy in Lugbe, Abuja, exemplified this challenge. Despite having highly motivated teachers and bright, ambitious students, the school was unable to fully implement digital learning because internet access was slow, unreliable, and expensive. Streaming educational content was frequently interrupted. Access to global learning platforms and online resources was unreliable. Virtual parent-teacher meetings were often disrupted or impossible. STEM and coding clubs could not function effectively. These limitations directly impacted learning outcomes, restricting exposure to innovative educational resources and opportunities for skill development.
Recognising this urgent need, we at unconnected.org partnered with Tizeti, Africa’s leading solar-powered broadband provider, to bring high-speed, unlimited internet to Sky Heights Academy. This partnership combined Tizeti’s sustainable solar-powered infrastructure with unconnected.org’s funding, guidance, and ongoing support, ensuring the long-term success of the project. From installation to teacher training, we worked closely with the school to integrate digital tools effectively into the curriculum, equipping educators with the knowledge and confidence to deliver interactive, technology-driven lessons.
The results were immediate and transformative. In the classroom, teachers could stream lessons without interruptions. Students gained real-time access to 3D science models, virtual laboratories, and educational documentaries from around the world. Digital whiteboards replaced traditional chalkboards, fostering a more dynamic and engaging learning environment. Beyond the classroom, coding clubs and technology-focused extracurricular programs flourished. Students participated in local and international competitions and developed essential digital skills for higher education and future careers.
Sky Heights Academy now serves as a model for how strategic partnerships, sustainable infrastructure, and capacity-building support can create lasting educational impact. By removing barriers to connectivity, we are enabling students and teachers to unlock their full potential.
“Before, we struggled with data and limited access to online resources. Now, our students are able to compete globally, all because of this partnership.”
— Principal Adeola, Sky Heights Academy

By investing in connectivity, training, and support, we are helping shape an educational landscape where every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
