LEO Satellite Connectivity Powers Learning in Isolated Palawan Schools

Anilawan Elementary School and Tagumpay Elementary School in Palawan, Philippines is now online through the efforts of ROS3TECH, partner of unconnected.org in bridging the digital divide in the region.

The primary school’s connectivity is delivered through Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite and is made available to students and teachers at no cost.

Affordable WiFi is likewise offered to the surrounding community; proceeds of which in turn supports the free Internet offered at the school.

Because of its geographical isolation, there is a lack of available commercial telecommunications services in the area. Local service providers have resorted to various technologies yet satellite remains to be the most practical in terms of adaptability and time-to-market.

While investment in missionary sites are almost consequential to successful enterprises in urban centers, catalysts provided by unconnected.org incentivizes entrepreneurs into doing commercial connectivity that benefits areas of social impact such as schools.

The community model sustaining beneficiary sites as implemented by ROS3TECH for the last-mile school is supported by the Internet Society Foundation.
