Partnership Powers Connectivity for Katakian Grande School
unconnected.org member-partner KioBytes is connecting yet again another island off the coast of Quezon, Luzon, Philippines, called Katakian Grande.
Support was provided by and through charityphilippines.org to jumpstart provisioning free internet at the elementary school at Katakian Grande Island through satellite kits from unconnected.org.
Remote already as it is, the subject island is located farther from Jomalig, which is in addition to the 6 hours boat ride from the mainland. It can be recalled that Jomalig is where the concentration of adopted schools by KioBytes and unconnected.org are located.
charityphilippines.org has extended the assistance to unconnected.org in a meaningful turn-over ceremony, signaling the kick-off of a much wider partnership on crowdfunding for connecting more schools in a sustainable model which features satellite internet provided to students free-of-charge, while allowing properly-licensed entrepreneurs to maximize the connectivity through socialized Internet for the community.
In the model, the commercial services provided by KioBytes offsets the school high-speed connection ensuring that as business prospers, free internet for students and teachers are sustained.
In effect, instead of a one-off, the support provided by charityphilippines.org serves as a catalyst in the development of digital infrastructure in the area, allowing for more remote sites with such model to be replicated - that is, lowering barriers for licensed operators to provide services in a rural location while at the same time provisioning connectivity for social impact, most especially for education.
charityphilippines.org and unconnected.org are launching several new calls for interested donors to adopt-a-school, dubbed as "Konek-a-School" (slang vernacular for let's connect), with interested donors able to contribute through the web-based donation platform.
